Insurance and Fees
Payment Policy
I will collect payment on a monthly basis, unless we have agreed upon an alternative plan. I offer an invoice at the end of each month to help with reimbursement from insurance companies for out-of-network coverage, if requested. I accept cash, check, or credit card.
Health Insurance
As a licensed psychologist, my professional services do qualify for reimbursement under most health insurance plans. I am considered to be an “out-of-network” provider, which means that a substantial proportion of my fee (often 60-85%) is often reimbursed through your insurance plan given that you have out-of-network coverage. Upon request, I will provide you with an invoice each month that contains all of the necessary information to easily apply for reimbursement from your health insurance provider. Prior to beginning therapy, it will be useful for you to contact your insurance company to get specific details about your mental health benefits including the number of sessions covered per year, and percent of cost covered for out of network providers. Overall, most clients find that the process is not nearly as overwhelming as it can seem from the outset and I will help in any way that I can to make it as smooth a process as possible.
There are several reasons that I have chosen not to participate as an in-network provider in managed care plans. First, it is difficult to ensure confidentiality given the amount of detailed information often required by insurance companies. Second, insurance companies often put parameters around the duration and type of therapy and these decisions are often made by individuals who have limited training and have never met you. Third, the extra administrative time required can be cumbersome and detract from the time that I have to train, read, consult with other professionals, and, generally, be the best therapist that I can for you. Given that I am committed to confidentiality and our autonomy in making collaborative decisions regarding your treatment, I do not participate in managed care plans.
